My Last Year As A 20 Something

Well it's official; I have 365 days until my 20's come to an end.  I am going to love and cherish this last year as a 20 something and my 20's will go out with a bang.  So far they have brought me my two beautiful girls, our crazy loving dog Tucker, our beautiful home, oh and I married the love of my life in my 20's as well; so far so good.

I had the pleasure of doing some travelling in my 20's, we did two trips to the gorgeous Mayan Riviera, we went to Vegas to celebrate my Dad and Step-Mom's 10 year anniversary and we took an amazing trip to the happiest place on earth.  We have spent countless summers in the Okanagan visiting with our friends and family in the sunshine by the lakes, we have spent some of our winters up in Whistler and we have taken a bunch of trips up to our family cabin.  We have been a family on the move and we have loved every minute of it.  Yes my 20's have been good to me in the travel sense too.

My 20's have also allowed me the pleasure of spending hundreds of hours with new mommies through their journey from pregnancy to motherhood.  I got to be with some great friends during their labors, some new faces and this past year I had the huge honor of watching my little sister give birth to her first baby, it was the first time I think I really related to what Dads must feel in the delivery room as there I was with someone I love so much and I felt quite helpless.  I know as a doula that we did a lot of great things to support her, but as her big sister I felt it was never quite enough.  Labor is such a beautiful and natural thing but you never know just how long it is going to last or exactly how it is going to affect the person giving birth.  Looking at my sister I wish I could have told her this is when and how everything is going to go but we just never know, all we can do is have faith and confidence in our body's ability to birth, and my sister did just that, it is in as one of my top 5 moments that my 20's have brought me.

Multitasking has been the word of my decade in the 20's.  I have been a mom, a full time employee, a student and a volunteer for the bulk of my 20's, it has been busy but it has been great.  My kids have brought me so much joy and taught me what unconditional love is.  Work has taught me how to appreciate my time with my kids and has allowed us some luxuries such as our ability to purchase our home.  School has given me my doula certification, it will result in my childbirth educator certification by the time my 20 something years end and I became a prenatal yoga teacher.  Looking forward to my 30's I am hoping a good chunk of them are spent getting my midwifery degree and then practicing.  Volunteering has always given me such joy as I love to give back to my community, over the years I have volunteered at my kids school, I have volunteered my doula services, I have volunteered at a local church and I am looking into new volunteer ventures to continue to give back.

So here is to my last year as a 20 something and all that I have to look forward as I enter a new chapter in my life.  Thank you to all of you who have been a part of our lives, I have met so many great people and have created life long friendships and bonds that I will cherish forever.

This one almost made me cry :)

I've known you for several years (before our 20-something's) and you are an inspiration to us all. A great mother, wife, sister and daughter with room to spare in your heart/life for friends and moms/babies; you're an inspiration to many.
I guarantee your 30-something's will be just as amazing, but enjoy your final days! You'll only be as old as you feel! ;)

I am a mother to 2 beautiful girls who are the light of my life.  Together with my husband and our cocker spaniel Tucker we live a life of love.  I am a doula who has logged close to 500 hours with moms during pregnancy and postpartum, I am a childbirth educator and a prenatal yoga instructor.  I love all aspects of pregnancy, birth and beyond and think support is the best thing you can have during this time.
